What should you set up in your first two weeks after moving to Central Oregon? Start with the basics that keep the house running: power, water, trash and internet. Then change your address, start on your Oregon driver license and vehicle registration, and book the appointments that can take a while to get, like a new doctor, dentist or vet.

Which utilities should you set up first?

Electricity, water and sewer, trash pickup and internet. Providers depend on the exact address, and some homes outside city limits use a private well and septic system instead of city water and sewer. Ask your agent or the seller for the current providers before closing so service can transfer the day you get the keys.

When do you need an Oregon driver license?

New residents have a set window to switch their license and vehicle registration to Oregon. Check the current rules and book your visit on the Oregon DMV website early, since appointment times can fill up.

Which appointments should you book early?

A primary care doctor, a dentist and, if you have pets, a vet. New-patient appointments can take time to land, so call soon after you move, and ask your current providers to send your records.

What is easy to forget?

Mail forwarding, voter registration, your insurance address, and changing the locks or garage codes. If you bought in an HOA community, register with the HOA so you receive notices, gate codes and amenity access.
