Where Can I Find an Easy Waterfall Walk Near Bend? Tumalo Falls

If you want a waterfall near Bend without a long hike, Tumalo Falls is the one people ask me about most. The main viewpoint sits just steps from the parking area in summer, so almost anyone who can walk a short path can see it. I am Sherrene Hagenbach-Winters, a Realtor with eXp Realty Oregon in Central Oregon, and easy outdoor outings like this are a big part of why people love living here.
Is Tumalo Falls an easy walk?
The main view is. According to the Deschutes National Forest, the viewpoint is just a few steps from the parking lot in summer. If you want a little more, the Tumalo Falls Trail leads from the picnic area up to a viewing platform above the falls. You choose how far you go.
Do I need a pass to visit Tumalo Falls?
Yes. The Deschutes National Forest requires a recreation pass at the Tumalo Falls day use area. A Northwest Forest Pass or a day pass works. Buy it before you drive up, since there is no guarantee of signal at the trailhead.
What should I know about parking?
Parking is limited and the area is popular, so an early start helps. The forest service also lists a 27 foot vehicle length limit at the trailhead, so leave the trailer or large RV at home.
Can you visit Tumalo Falls in winter?
Only while the road is open. The forest service says the parking area closes with significant snowfall. Winter visitors use the Skyliner Sno-Park instead, which needs its own sno-park permit. For an easy waterfall stop, late spring through fall is the simple choice.
Why does a Realtor write about trails?
Because when people picture life in Central Oregon, they picture places like this, close enough for an afternoon. If you are thinking about a move here, start a conversation at sherrenehagenbachwinters.com.
